Ripping Tracks and Cataloguing CDs

If you want to rip Tracks from CDs and also catalog your physical CDs, don't take the approach of adding the CDs to the Library and then ripping them as this will result in duplicate entries.  The Track will appear once for the CD version of the Track and a second time for the ripped version. To avoid this, use the Virtual CD:

  1. If you haven't already, configure the Virtual CD via Tools > Options > Virtual CD & Previews.

If you wish to reduce the amount of CPU cycles used during the process, you may similarly right-click on the status bar, select Change Priority, and choose a lower priority level.

Once you remove the CD, you'll notice that in the Library, the Locations View has an entry for the CD, and all of the Tracks on the CD are part of the Library. The Tracks that are accessible (i.e. those that were ripped to the Virtual CD) appear in black, while the songs that are inaccessible (because they weren't ripped and the CD isn't inserted) appear greyed out.

Deleting from Virtual CD

Deleting Tracks from a Virtual CD can be a bit tricky, since in some cases, you'll want to delete the Track entirely (normal delete operation), while in others, you may simply want to remove it from the Virtual CD (without deleting it from the drive). In the latter case, you can:
